I'm still working on part two of the Canons of Proportion essay, but here's a little status update to show that I have done some sculpting.
I've finally decided to bake this guy - he's in the oven now, actually. I'm going to have to cut off the one hand that's there; although the general shape is decent, I used Fasteel epoxy to attach the brass tube, and I used too much, so now can't sculpt in the finger details because the hardened epoxy is where some of the details need to go. After I bake, I'll cut it off and then do both of the hands. I can't do hands at this scale when the they're on a base like this. I need to be able to move the sculpt to different angles, and get in nice and close with the optivisors on. So, I'm gonna bake and get that rod out of his back.
There are still a few wonky areas where I probably should have spent some more time before doing a bake, but I'm trying to overcome my fear of premature baking. Plus, this guy's just a throwaway piece anyway just for learning more about Sculpey.
In case you noticed that the grey is not uniform, that's actually due to coming back to this guy after he had been put back on the shelf, and my new mix (Super Sculpey + Super Sculpey Firm) is not exactly the same color as my old mix (Super Sculpey + Fimo Black and Fimo White).
